>> WHO SURVIVED the
>> 1930′s 40′s, 50′s, 60′s and 70′s !!
>>
>> First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank
>>while they were pregnant.
>> They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can,
>>and didn’t get tested for diabetes.
>>
>> Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in
>>baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
>>
>> We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets
>>and when we
>> rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we
>>took hitchhiking.
>> As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats,
>>booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
>>
>> Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a
>>special treat.
>>
>>
>> We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
>>
>>
>> We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and
>>
>> NO ONE actually died from this.
>>
>> We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank koolade
>>made with sugar, but we weren’t overweight because .
>>
>> WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING !
>>
>> We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as
>>we were back when the streetlights came on.
>>
>> No one was able to reach us all day.
>>
>> And we were O.K.
>>
>>
>>
>> We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and
>>then ride down
>> the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running
>>into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
>>
>> We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video
>>games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD’s,
>>no surround-sound or CD’s, no cell phones, no personal computer! s,
>>no Internet or chat rooms…….
>> WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
>>
>> We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there
>>were no
>> lawsuits from these accidents.
>>
>> We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not
>>live in us forever.
>>
>> We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
>>
>> made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were
>>told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
>>
>> We rode
>> bikes or walked to a friend’s house and kno cked on the door or
>>rang
>> the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
>>
>> Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those
>>who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
>>
>> The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was
>>unheard of.
>>
>> They actually sided with the law!
>>
>> These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers,
>>problem solvers and inventors ever!
>>
>> The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new
>>ideas.
>>
>> We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we
>>learned
>>
>> HOW TO
>>
>> DEAL WITH IT ALL!
>>
>> If YOU are one of them . . . CONGRATULATIONS!

So So right.I was born in the 70′s and really dont envy my kids. You barely see any kids before a live audience outside today. I thought in my neighbourhood there wasnt many kids but the schools are full.So what do they do with their time?

  • Lord L:

I hope you say a silent prayer for all those children who died because of all of the above. We don’t do those things anymore because children DID die (and subdue do). The goal is to hopefully have your child survive to adulthood as you did. God smiles on the lucky, and gathers the unlucky.

  • Ash:

I really agree… even when I was growing up in the 80s, I did alot of those things.. Its incredible what goes on now-a-days

  • .*AnNa*.:

Okay, so my parents fit into this group, but they made for a horribly disfunctional family and very uneducated parents. Possibly other parents from that age range grew up to be okay(and have okay children), but if that is right, why is depression and drug/alcohol abuse so high among teens and young adults these days?

  • Angie P.:

This may not have been the best place to post this modest tidbit of information, but it’s subdue right on the money. Thanks for the reminder!

  • msuzyq:

I survived, so did my siblings. I agree with what you wrote, yet I wonder…..how many of us that survived are raising the kids of today?

  • Carol:

Pmsl … it’s really reasonably incredible we made it through all that eh? Thanks for the giggle … two thumbs up!!

  • hmmm:

though a bit long, but excellent one, shorter wud have been better

  • KieKie:

I’m one of them and proud to be! I have memories my own grandchildren will never have and I find it so sad. The most terrible business about it is, I can’t see things ever getting back to the way they used to be. The fee of progress is high, isn’t it?

  • nette:

I didnt survive those years because I was not born until 1980 but my parents were exactly like the parents you described I loved being outside before a live audience softball with my acquaintances because the kids I grew up nearly despised being inside with their parents and were gone from sunrise to sunset outside before a live audience coming inside long enough for a glass of Koolaide and lunch then we were off again until the streetlights came on and it was dinnertime

Kids these days dont know how simple they have it compared to the generations before them without computers, tvs, or even electric indoor plumbing ( it used to get really cold going to the bathroom in the wintertime and having to use an outhouse,my parents once told me)

  • lil'shane:

“Thank You” for sharing that. I came along in 43′ so I have seen an dreadful lot of changes in my 62 yrs. The only business I would add to it : was that there were 5 of us at home together. We all had our chores. We sure didn’t grumble about them or doing them. And we all made sure our special chores were done either before we played or made sure we got home in time to do them before dark.I am so thankful for living in the country and was able to raise my 3 on a ranch.

  • sadkitty1:

Parents who are content with mere “survival” might envy the past. i want my chidren to THRIVE not just survive!
