    in the back seat

(B)………in the middle of the back seat.

Definitely B) Middle. We put our child car seat in the middle.. just incase (God forbid!) someone hits you from the side, your child still has the buffer from the space between the car seat and door.

it is not a law, the only law is that they must be in the back seat. The safest place is the middle, but also the safest place is where you get the best install. If that happens to be outboard, that’s okay.
